Nothing to Hide

Facebook has enough data on me to know I’m older and I like clothes, so it showed me an ad with this testimonial: I’m in my 60s and I want something to cover my butt.

That “something” was a thigh-length jacket whose butt-coverage was purportedly “designed for maturing bodies.”

The company says it’s focused on “breaking the age ceiling” and “feeling good about ourselves”—and then they talk a lot about “complete coverage.” And they apparently don’t see the contradiction.

Yo, advertisers: Please think twice before you conflate aging with a need to cover up and hide.
