3 in a Day

Ageism I witnessed today:

First, someone who was ill said he felt “like a 99-year-old man.” Truth: He doesn’t know what that feels like, and it’s absolute conjecture to suggest all 99-year-olds feel ill.

Second, in a news report about a boat, someone asked, “Can you imagine a 60-70 year old man climbing out?” Truth: Age alone does not determine who’s able to manage specific physical maneuvers.

Third, in a movie, a piano teacher delivered the line, “For what it’s worth, learning an instrument at your age is difficult.” Truth: Learning an instrument is difficult. Period.

It’s not about age.
