Keep Climbing

White stairs and railing against a yellow wall.

In her 70s, Allison bought a house with stairs—and she did it on purpose. The realtor kept asking, Are you sure?

She was sure.

The argument generally goes: When you’re older, you should move to a one-story home, because climbing stairs might get difficult. But if you ask Allison, that’s backwards.

Of course climbing the stairs becomes difficult if you quit. That’s true of any activity, at any age. So Allison’s plan is not to quit.

She knows she’s not “too old” for a house with stairs.

Maybe she’s “too old” to let anyone tell her what to do.
