Laughter for One
A friend told me she recently saw a bumper sticker that was bright yellow and had a drawing of a snail. It also said “Senior Driver.” Ugh.
Interestingly, I had just read a blog post by Cathy Goodwin, PhD, that explains exactly why something like that’s not an innocent joke. Instead of directing a laugh at oneself without harming anyone else …
… it’s an encouragement “to laugh at everyone in the demographic,” Goodwin says.
Here’s the thing: If you want to joke about your own driving—or your own whatever—go ahead.
But leave your cohort out of it.
