The Shoe that Didn’t Drop

Lately, I’ve heard several people use the phrase now that I’m older to mean something positive.

The first was talking about gaining a better understanding of how to handle anxiety.

Another spoke of insights into what it takes to write good characters in comedy.

And a third was revisiting a painful jilting from the past, then recognizing the hilarious lessons that had previously been ignored.

Honestly, I was wondering each time if the other shoe might drop—if a silly age comment might ruin the mood. But each time, the now-that-I’m-older conversation stayed upbeat and moved on.

It was beautiful.
