A Beautiful Aim

A woman kneels in an athletic stance while drawing back her bow, aiming at a colorful target

A famous podcaster asks her guests, “How old do you feel?”—and I’ve been hoping to hear the perfect answer to this unwittingly ageist question. I think I finally did.

“I don’t feel any age, to be honest,” a recent guest responded. “I don’t think about age. I just be.”

What a wonderful goal, I thought.

Writing about ageism can lead to a lot of focus on age—including all the junk people attach to the numbers. But I love this approach, this beautiful aim: To embrace one’s existence, and leave the digits out of it.

To just be.
