A Dose of Good Sense

A pillbox embossed with SMTWTFS for the days of the week

A colleague and I decided to open our conference session with stories about our own self-directed ageism—to point out that we’ve all been conditioned this way. Here’s what I shared:

I’d recently begun taking a new supplement. To start, I was taking two rather large pills at a time, so I needed a new pillbox to fit them.

At the pharmacy, however, I caught myself looking at the larger models, thinking This is such an old-person thing to do.

And then I remembered, I was simply taking good care of myself.

And that’s such an intelligent thing to do.
