Degrees of Difficulty

On Facebook, I saw a comment that said, Aging is a privilege but still difficult—especially when cosmetic options are not affordable.

That second part surprised me.

Was the writer suggesting our later years would be less difficult with inexpensive access to the occasional nip-and-tuck?

I’m imagining appointments, injections—maybe stitches and recovery—not to mention worrying that it might not work out as promised. Which sounds pretty arduous to me.

I haven’t heard of any research that suggests life is easier when we focus on cultural beauty norms.

But I’ve heard life is better when we adapt to change.
