All the Same

Three graduation caps—two black and one red

A former colleague sent me an ad she had run across—touting “Ph.D. programs for seniors”—and wondered what on earth it could mean.

“What would be different about a Ph.D. based on my age?” she asked. And the answer, of course, is absolutely nothing. A Ph.D is a Ph.D. is a Ph.D.

But she also asked, “Why is this being targeted to ‘seniors’ at all?” so I did a little sleuthing, and it turns out—it was a scam.

Sometimes, unfortunately, when advertisers focus on older adults, they’re just looking for an audience to be fleeced.
