Blowing Minds

At a three-day meeting about dismantling ageism, I keep hearing phrases that cause people in the room to make that my-head-just-exploded gesture.

The eyes grow big, the hands come to the sides of the head, then the arms fly up and the fingers open wide.

We make a sound, too: It’s something like pschww!

Here’s one that triggered it for me: Ageism causes harm to all of us, and that damage consumes resources that could address other important issues.

And here’s another: It’s time to redefine successful aging beyond how many “youthful” attributes you can manage to cling to.

Pschww!
