Make It Normal

The first time a woman went to med school, it was, by definition, an out-of-the-ordinary event. Even those who recognized it as a good idea may have said something like, That’s extraordinary!

But what happens when young girls overhear something like that? It doesn’t exactly communicate, Here’s a path to consider. It suggests it’s a little far-fetched.

Recently, I heard someone mention her father earned a degree in German at age 76. Her interviewer exclaimed, That’s extraordinary!

But is it? Is that far-fetched? What about just saying, What a great idea …

We could normalize older adults doing interesting things.
