Seeing AI is a helpful app for people who are blind. Point a phone’s camera at text, scenery, etc., and it’ll say out loud what it sees.

It works with faces, too, and the description starts with an estimated age. Of course, with our culture’s views on aging, it can become a contest, with people trying to push the number down.

A 37-year-old I know heard “a 40-year-old man” and felt like he’d failed.

Even a 9-year-old caught on to the goal. When he got “an 8-year-old boy,” he punched the air and said Yes!

Yikes, this conditioning starts early.
