Even the Cool People Say So
Love it when somebody famous—and cool—uses their platform to call out the ageist crap that hides in our language.
Like author and former fashion model Paulina Porizkova, who told her followers to stop saying “still” when delivering a compliment.
I know it’s kindly meant, she said, but using “still” actually perpetuates ageism.
It not only stifles the praise (You still look great is not exactly You look great)—it also back-handedly hints at something lost (You’re still running = Hmm, seems like you would have stopped).
Delete the “still”; keep the kudos.
Thanks, Paulina. You’re [just plain] wonderful.
