Frightfully Maddening
A book about communication helped me understand why it’s easy to get angry about ageism: It’s often an expression of fear.
For example, it’s frightening to realize we could have decades of life (and expenses) ahead, but be at the mercy of hiring managers who want to ignore our skills.
And it’s terrifying to know we could have a treatable condition, but be at the mercy of doctors who suggest it’s just “part of getting older.”
Here’s another chilling thought: It’s maddeningly difficult to help people understand, one day they might be scared and angry, too—unless we #StopAgeism now.
