Gettin’ Lucky
A friend of mine had an optometrist who was known for his positive attitude. She remembers an appointment where, discovering her vision was getting worse, she lamented, “I’m getting old.” To which the doctor replied, “Lucky you!”
Being an intelligent woman—with a healthy streak of optimism herself—she got it. And it became part of her personal creed. Especially when she learned, later, that the doctor had died young—missing the good fortune of growing older himself.
Now she passes it on, like an anti-ageism gesundheit, whenever she hears people say “I’m getting old.”
I hope it catches.
