HAIR: GRAY

A woman peeks with one open eye through her long white hair, which is floating and flying around gracefully

About a month ago, I headed to the DMV to update my driver’s license. I’ve moved, and the picture was out of date, too—it showed me as a brunette.

Before taking my photo, an employee typed in my new address, then turned the screen and asked me to check the information—which included HAIR: BROWN. I pointed out the discrepancy.

But I also wondered why she’d pretended not to notice. Was it because people are presumed to be sensitive about age-related stuff?

One day, it’d be cool if people didn’t act like gray hair was too embarrassing to mention.
