Tomayto, Potayto

A child's hands holding several tiny potatoes

If one of my grandsons says “tomato” when he means “potato,” he says, “Oh yeah, potato.” Not, Omigosh there goes my brain.

If he calls me “Mom” instead of “Nenna,” he shakes it off and replaces the wrong moniker with the right one. And if someone mentions his pants are on backwards, he turns them around and says, “Can we play Blokus?”

Little memory blips are a normal part of life at any age—and we’re less likely to make more of them if we just relax.

You can learn a lot from a kid with his pants on backwards.
