In 1925?

One of the self-deprecating jokes people make about their own aging is to say they did something “100 years ago.” For example, I recently heard it after, “When I studied training and development ….”

It’s sometimes meant as a humble way of saying, “Things have probably changed since then, and I’m not suggesting my expertise is up-to-date.” But because it’s an exaggeration, it also says, “Let’s laugh because I’m old.”

Ashton Applewhite told us, “When women compete to ‘stay young,’ we collude in our own disempowerment.”

I think the same can be said about mocking ourselves for our age.
