Inspiration

Waiter taking an order, with an older man's head in the foreground

A friend of mine has a disability, and she’s used to people saying ridiculous things—like calling her an inspiration (as if she’s abnormal), or asking her companions what she’d like to order (as if she wasn’t sitting right there).

Recently she was out with her parents, and her father got the weird treatment instead. However, when the waiter asked, “And what would you like, young man?” (as if he wasn’t a grown-ass, grown-up dude), my friend had a response: You say that like it’s a compliment.

Don’t tell her, but I’m thinking she might be an inspiration after all.
