It’s Just Energy

A jagged bolt of lightning going in several directions and hitting the ground.

A podcaster tells his 100-year-old guest, You’re full of youthful energy, and I think, ugh.

The man’s a runner, canoe racer, climate activist and more. Fantastic energy, yes. But calling it “youthful” just echoes a cultural stereotype. It says energy belongs to our early years, then supposedly goes away.

You want to see youthful energy? Come with me to the locker room at 6 p.m., when the pre-teen girls get out of swim practice. Omg the screaming, the antics, the need for All The Attention. There’s some youthful energy. Whew!

Youth is a just timeframe. It’s not a compliment.
