It’s the Nookie
There’s a form (or phase) of ageism that’s focused on early adulthood, and I call it “All About the Nookie.” That’s when our biological imperative tells us we’ve gotta be sexy because we’ve gotta make babies.
Not everybody feels this, of course. But it’s common. And it’s quite the Darwinian dopamine hit, so we have a built-in fear of leaving it behind. There’s safety in being wanted in our community.
Seeing a wrinkle = feeling less valuable. But does it make sense to not move on?
Where’s the advantage in believing there won’t be more, valuable things to come?
