Not-To-Do’s

A stop sign with green fields and blue sky behind it

An article—"33 Things Women Over 60 Should Stop Doing”—offers a list of activities some of us ought to, apparently, quit. Stuff like “feeling inadequate” and “comparing yourself to others.”

Of course, it might as well suggest we stop “stabbing yourself with pencils” or “eating rotten fish”—every item’s something no one should do, of any age or gender.

But among the ageist assumptions (“avoiding new technology”) and the sickly sweet writing (“You are like a fine wine …”) there was one sentence I rather liked:

“Apologizing for the natural process of aging is like apologizing for the sunrise.”
