Spreading Ideas

Tracey Gendron, author of “Ageism Unmasked,” recently wrote about something she witnessed onstage. Someone had forgotten their reading glasses, so to lighten the moment (I imagine) they said into the mic, Don’t get old, folks.

Translation? Die young. Or, as Tracey notes, Getting older is bad.

It’s tragic that harmful ideas are so easy to spread—and frustrating that it’s not nearly as simple to fire back with something positive. Something that tries to unwind the damage and open up minds.

I’ve been thinking, and my best response to “Don’t get old” is …

Oh, but I hope I will!
