Talk About Words

HR Mixtape, co-mentoring across generations

Many thanks to Shari Simpson for a fun interview and for including me in the HR Mixtape podcast episode that dropped today. We chat about the language people use when talking about aging, and how we can all improve.

Our conversation ranges from specific words and phrases (“You don’t look 40!”), to stereotype activation and the wisdom of asking ourselves what we mean any time we mention age.

We also talk about the idea of “reverse mentoring” and how that phrase suggests information moves in only one direction, while “co-mentoring” is bi-directional.

After all, we all learn from each other.
