It’s Not an Illusion
In “How to Be Old: Lessons in Living Boldly from the Accidental Icon,” author Lyn Slater writes about her sixties, a decade in which she became a notable fixture in fashion and social media.
At 66, she participated in an ad campaign that had her saying, “Age is just an illusion.” Then she heard from women who were upset she had “narcissistically and casually” suggested aging was not real.
To her great credit, Slater writes that she appreciates the women who spoke up. They reminded her that “an active, comfortable, and long old age is a privilege not equally shared.”
