What About Me
This week I’m taking a class on audio description and was asked to provide a description of myself in no more than 100 words.
Of course, I was agonizing over whether my age would be helpful. Does “63-year-old woman” provide a handy shortcut to understanding how wrinkled I probably am, without getting into the lines between my eyebrows and the crinkles around my eyes? What about the gravity of my jawline?
I thought it’d fit the genre’s expectations, so (surprise!) I included it. I’m gratified to learn I was wrong.
As the teacher says, Age doesn’t describe how somebody looks.
