What Comes to Mind?

A young girl with a pensive look on her face.

What comes to mind when you see the phrase “aging Americans”?

Do you imagine slow-moving adults with sparse hair and walkers, wobbling about, looking confused as the world rushes by? (Hmm, too cliché?)

Maybe you have a more active image in mind—like the cool retired couple next door, heading out on their bikes or loading up their kayaks, enthusiastically chatting about their next college classes.

Or maybe you think about something else.

Maybe you roll your eyes, shake your head, and ask, Are you trying to tell me there are Americans who aren’t aging?

If we’re living, we’re aging.
