More of the Same

Years ago, searching photo sites for pictures of people at work brought up a lot of white men in suits. Now we’re seeing more diversity—but not in age. While some sources are working on it, we still have far to go. 

Now AI presents the same problem. Today I asked for a picture of a typical office environment, and it came back with lots of white folks who appear to be in their mid-30s. Again and again.

Maybe we’ll know this movement has really progressed when AI is trained to recognize that a “typical” group contains diversity—including age.
