The first time I experienced overt ageism in the workplace, I was 24. I

n an interview, a guy who was just a skosh older than me said I seemed to be qualified, but one problem was that the office was already quite young, and hiring me wouldn’t help fix that.

I didn’t get the job.

There’s a part of me that hopes they found someone over 60, and it was a triumph for later-life hiring. But a bigger part of me knows that’s not the solution, and younger people—especially women—continue to experience ageism.

Ageism Affects Everyone.
