Long Live ‘Lifelong’
After tonight’s workout, I obliged the community center by taking their short survey. It was mostly checking boxes—who I am, what I do there—but on the second page was a spot for comments. So I wrote a little essay about “senior,” a word they sometimes use.
I mentioned it’s unspecific and therefore meaningless, and urged them to dump it altogether. If a class is “low-impact,” say so. Ditto “gentle” or “adaptive.” And if something is “free to those over 65,” say that.
Auspiciously, there’s another phrase they use that does make perfect sense …
Long live “lifelong learning.”
