Skip It

“The greatest source of stress for the human brain and mind is the fear of the negative evaluation of other people.”

That’s from psychologist Ian Robertson, interviewed on the 10% Happier podcast.

It got me thinking—maybe that’s why people laugh with embarrassment when mentioning their age, or talking about something from long ago. Maybe it’s a way to preempt others from making that “negative evaluation.”

Aha, you can’t say my age is ridiculous! I said it first!

But what an illogical cycle—trying to avoid harm from others by harming ourselves …?

Why not skip the evaluation altogether?
