Here’s a video campaign I’d love to see: Let’s show managers having normal, grown-up conversations with older employees. We’ll see them asking the same questions—and making the same suggestions—they would with anyone else.
Things like, “What new skills would you like to develop in the next few years?” and, “There’s a project that could really benefit from your experience—I was hoping you’d be interested in leading the team …”
The older employees, of course, would respond with the kind of upbeat enthusiasm that regularly occurs when people are treated with relevance and respect.
Workplace ageism limits potential.
