Show Me the Gray

A man wearing a backpack, gazing at mountains in the distance.

There’s no gray hair in the REI catalog, though there’s plenty on the trails, the rivers, and even in the stores.

I’m not complaining for olders like me; we don’t need their marketing. If I want another kayak or need a new backpack, I know where to go.

But leaving older adults out of the photo shoot tells those in their younger years, these outside activities are just for your current enjoyment. When you’re older, you’ll be out of the picture.

And that’s an insidious lie.

Here’s an appeal …

Those catalog photos should show everyone: Adventure is for life.
