What Are they Selling?

A set of Scrabble tiles spelling out "adwords"

No one tries to sell you a pet-sitting service by telling you that caring for your goldendoodle is a heavy, heavy chore that sucks your life away.

And no one tries to sell you summer camp by telling you that keeping an 8-year-old fed and active is a sad and oppressive chore.

But when they talk about older parents, the marketing narrative gets negative.

If you see advertising that appeals to a victim-like status—telling you they can help with the "burden of caring for your aging parents"—run.

Caring for others doesn't make us victims. It makes us human.
