Stepping Up

Here’s an interesting study I heard about, from Stanford. Adults aged 18-92 were asked to track their steps for a week. Some participants were offered financial incentives—either for themselves or for others—to increase their steps in week 2.

It turns out, people of all ages who were earning dollars for themselves walked more in week 2.

But when participants could earn donations to a charity by increasing their steps, the older the participant, the more steps they added. Interestingly, the youngest ones made zero additional effort for charity.

There are many ways we grow as we grow older.
