Synonyms Superfluous
When writing about women—especially at work—we stick with the word “women.” We don’t say “ladies” or “girls” or anything else, just to find a synonym.
The same is true of “Black.” That’s the word to use, and nobody plays up the prose with a supposed replacement—linguistic variety be damned.
Now it’s time for “older adults” (or people or employees) to be stamped on the journalistic consciousness. Because “seniors” and “the elderly”—and those unscientific generation names—draw negative pictures in the reader’s mind.
Best practice: State the age range you’re talking about.
Otherwise: Stick with “older.”
