Updating the Moment

An artistic clock with small colorful balls on spokes instead of numbers

“Menopause Is Having a Moment” is the New Yorker article’s title—but the subhead seems flippant, asking, “Why does every generation think it’s the first to have hot flashes?”

It looks at three new books by media professionals advocating for awareness, each of whom says she lacked information when reaching the milestone herself. The journalist counters: There were, in fact, earlier books and articles.

But it’s one of those topics that doesn’t feel relevant until—wham—it is. And we want to know what we’re reading is up-to-date. So why not keep talking about it?

The more information, the better.
