What Are We Teaching?

For schools that start the academic year in late August or early September, the 100th day of school is coming up. And many are getting ready to “celebrate” by encouraging kids and teachers to “dress up like 100-year-olds.”

The result is a day of mimicking and mocking people with gray hair and disabilities, teaching that older adults and physical challenges are something to laugh at.

ASA has created a document that offers several alternative ways to mark the 100th day—including some positive lessons about people who have truly lived to 100.

Find it here. Share it with schools.
