Who You Talkin’ To?

Four young employees looking at a computer together and pointing at the screen

What do organizations do when they want to justify their assumptions that older employees don’t measure up? Here’s one trick …

First, they recognize every employee needs training over the course of their career.

Second, they set out to create some training materials.

Third, they populate the slides—as well as the marketing emails and invitations—with photos and cartoon characters that reflect the demographic they’re actually thinking about: Young, young, and young.

And fourth, they complain that older employees don’t sign up for the training—even though all the materials have clearly said, “We’re not talking to you.”
